My garden (indoor and outdoor) is still under turmoil. I went out of town for a few days, and it was as if I wasn’t even there before fighting them. When I got home I saw the damage. And it’s bad. Outside I also recently discovered that I now am going to be fighting spider mites as well! I just can’t believe this, it’s so frustrating. I love my garden, it’s my zen after a long day at work. And these assholes are trying to destroy my zen garden!
It was definitely time to fight back with something better. Something that would not only get rid of the pests, but DEVOUR them and send them to the hell that they flew out of.
So I bought some lady bugs.
I was very hesitant to do so. Mainly because well, they are bugs, and I think bugs are gross. However, I was ready to fight fire with fire. This is my first time getting some lady bugs, so I honestly have no idea how to deal with releasing these beautiful creatures. Apparently, it’s best to put them in the fridge for a little bit so they can kind of hibernate. That way they are easier to spread around the garden or wherever you need them. I must advise that if you skip this step you will have lady bugs all over yourself, because they move FAST.
I put them in the fridge for about 30 to 45 minutes. When I took them out and opened it they were alive (yay! I was scared to kill them) and they were moving around a lot slower than before. Inside they are packed with stuff for them to munch on.
Before you release them, you need to mist your plants. That way the lady bugs have water to drink. A light misting should be fine. I went outside and sprayed my backyard and then misted my plants inside with some water. Outside, I just sprinkled them on all the problem areas. I have this one asshole bush that is unruly and grows in all directions that I’m sure is the hub of my problems outside. I gave said bush a nice helping of lady bugs.
In the middle of me placing them around the garden some started to wake up and crawl around fast. Thankfully my boyfriend was there for moral support and totally helped me when I needed to put the last few inside on our Aerogardens.
He carefully placed the last few guys on Robert Plant and Javier Garden (the bell peppers and jalapeno/tomato plants).
The lady bugs immediately started to feast! I was so happy, and a little nervous as well. Because we did just willingly put bugs in our kitchen. Eek! However, I feel like it was the best step to take, I need to win. I need to kill these asshole aphids. Oh and now spider mites.
Gardening is hard. I feel like I just can’t win! But I will stop at nothing, NOTHING, to keep my plant-babies safe.
